Millbrook Water Fight Can Impact Everyone

The following is being posted with the consent of the original author ...

It’s all about water! reads the sign, yes it says a lot about the struggle we are having in the Millbrook area, but, it says not all. We are fighting to protect our water source, we are fighting, to prevent the potential poisoning of the aquifer including the Oakridge Moraine.  We do not want anyone messing around with a natural resource that is necessary for life itself and that can not be replaced once it is depleted.  We want this good old earth to be here for generations to come.  We are fighting for democracy.  We did not vote for a council that would do whatever they see fit.  We need a council that represents the people that voted for them.  Even though, they might believe whatever they decide is the right thing to do, they have an obligation to listen to the people and do whatever the majority decides they want.  I believe it is called “democracy”.

I have talked to many people who don’t live in the Millbrook area, a very common comment is, it does not affect us because we do not live there.  Well folks, I believe you are wrong.  If anyone messes around with our resources it could and will affect every one.

I have also been asked, what can I do?

Well,,,, we need your support and understanding about what is going on in this struggle, even if it is just a verbal encouragement it will help.  Check out www.socm.ca for more info.and show your support.thanks.

One thing I would like to say, remember,,,whatever is happening in Millbrook it could happen in your community or town, and the only way you can prevent it is.

When election time comes, make sure you make your voice heard.  Go and cast your vote.

Make sure you have someone who wants to represent you.  Get involved and by the way, it also counts for provincial and federal elections, I think 30% voters turnout is just plain disgusting. We can do much, much better.
